Water and music: towards a new form of care?
In April 2026, Dr. Brun obtained a favorable opinion from the North West II Committee for the Protection of Persons, concerning underwater musical interventions in physiotherapy practices for the treatment of chronic pain.
This is the first medical study, conducted and submitted for publication, that examines the effects of therapeutic music in an aquatic environment.
This pilot study, carried out in 2025 at the Balaruc-les-Bains thermal baths, combines two treatments that have been the subject of scientific publications and a treatment currently undergoing medical evaluation.
Crenotherapy (treatment using thermal water, practiced since antiquity) and music therapy (practiced since time immemorial) have demonstrated beneficial effects on mental well-being and pain.

What happens during a musical massage session?
The AQUA MUSIC phenomenon is very simple to understand: a waterproof speaker is immersed in a swimming pool or spa . This sets the pool water vibrating. Since our bodies are composed of approximately 80% fluid, the musical waves penetrate your body and reach the brain via these transmitters. This bodily listening ability, which we have called "amniotic-tympanic hearing," did not disappear at birth. It had simply remained dormant, in the absence of our invention. Thanks to this waterproof speaker for pools or spas , we can reactivate this hearing, which is actually twofold. The combination of these two forms of listeningโthrough the ear in the water, which remains active, and through the "amniotic-tympanic" hearing, via the bodyโgenerates the musical massage.

How to listen to music in water?
Underwater music listening isn't a conventional experience, as you'll be combining swimming and listening to music. You'll forget the sensation of the water and find yourself immersed in the music!
Quite simply in 2 ways: on the water and underwater.
- Regarding the first option, we have developed a flotation system, which we call "the AQUA MUSIC Mat," which allows you to float very comfortably. Your body can relax very quickly, and you don't have to "conquer" the water element. The music will penetrate you very easily, slowly, and promote a listening experience that we describe as "extraordinary."
- The second option: underwater! For those who enjoy more dynamic musical sensations, this is the mask-snorkel technique. Why a mask-snorkel? Simply because when you immerse your body and mind in water, you experience some discomfort in your eyes and nose, or irritation. You also have to come up to breathe if you are freediving and you therefore lose contact with the piece of music. The snorkel will allow you to be in contact with the music at all times and to move at the bottom, in the middle, to the right, to the left, to dance, to play with the musical wave. Personally, I prefer this solution, knowing that using the Mat is more peaceful, more relaxing. We think it will suit more people than the freediving version. The advantage of the mask-snorkel technique lies in the fact that you can move with the music. When I say move, I don't mean swim, I mean dance; but it's a gesture that varies depending on your mood and the music you're listening to. Your aquatic, even underwater, behavior will be modified. In short, the snorkel mask is freedom, you do what you want, the mat is comfort.
What music should you listen to?
We advise, and this is the only advice we will allow ourselves to give to readers, to choose music that invites relaxation, since water is already an invitation to well-being. Music will add to this effect. It is therefore not appropriate to use music that will counteract the relaxing effect of immersing the body in a swimming pool.
Can you give some advice to get the most out of an Aqua music system?
An AQUA MUSIQUE set is composed of 2 speakers and a 2 x 60 watt power amplifier, under 8 ohms and a 4 x 60 watt amplifier under 8 ohms in the case of 4 speakers in your pool. You connect this set to a music source of your choice: CD player, MP3 player, iPod, but you will prefer an uncompressed recording format. The installation of our underwater speakers, "Shell" version, presents no difficulty.
All you have to do is immerse them in two distant points of your pool and see for yourself which of these two locations, which of these two heights, will best suit the acoustic performance of these speakers.
The right recipe for an Aquamusique session?
It's very simple, choose music that matches the mood. If we want to relax, we will choose music that will invite relaxation. The length of a session will vary, not based on taste or mood, but based on water temperature. Hence the importance of prioritizing the temperature of the water over the size of the pool.
